2017 HPA Tech Retreat® Schedule Puts Focus on VR/AR at TR-X

Industry Leaders Head to the Desert to Explore Important Trends and Technologies (January 18, 2017)

Seen as an incomparable opportunity to meet and engage with a world-class roster of well-known and emerging leaders in engineering, technology, creativity and business, the HPA Tech Retreat takes place in the desert over the course of a week. Participants confer on future trends and technologies of the media and entertainment ecosystem while tackling issues of the present from fresh perspectives.  The Tech Retreat offers access to a wide range of in-depth information, facilitating a nuanced and informed view of industry trajectories. The Tech Retreat returns to the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells, near Palm Springs, CA, from 20-24 February 2017.



This year, in a half-day TR-X session held the Monday before the official start of the Tech Retreat, the focus is all on VR/AR.  TR-X is a stand-alone registration to the Tech Retreat. Additionally, this year??s Innovation Zone at the HPA Tech Retreat will feature a curated section focusing on leading-edge technology being developed in the realm of VR/AR.



On Monday, 20 February, Lucas Wilson (Founder-Executive Producer, SuperSphereVR) and Marcie Jastrow (SVP Immersive Media, Head, Technicolor Experience Center) will co-chair a half-day TR-X session focusing on VR/AR. Discussion will focus on the changing VR/AR landscape in the context of rapidly growing integration into entertainment and applications. Thought leaders and creative panelists will tackle crucial questions: What do you need to understand? How do you adapt? What are the workflows? Storytellers, technologists, and industry leaders provide an overview of technology and marketplace and discuss how to harness emerging technologies in the service of the artistic vision. A series of diverse case studies and creative explorations ?? from NASA to the NFL ?? examine how to engage the audience. Speakers include David Moretti and Koji Gardiner (Jaunt), Kyle Schember (Subtractive), Alan Lasky (8i), Ben Grossman (Magnopus), Tim Dillon (MPC), and many others.



Tuesday through Friday, Tech Retreat programming covers the most important topics facing the media industry. A diverse array of breakfast roundtable discussions, led by key industry experts, kick off the day on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings. The Innovation Zone returns to the Tech Retreat from Tuesday through Thursday, offering attendees the opportunity to explore emerging and innovating technologies from nearly 60 companies at the vanguard of the industry. This year??s Innovation Zone will feature a special curated section highlighting innovation in VR/AR.  

The 2017 HPA Tech Retreat is a limited attendance event, strictly capped at 600 guests, and is expected to sell out.  The same is true of TR-X, which is ticketed separately.  Registration is now open for TR-X and the entire Tech Retreat, and both day passes and full conference passes are available. Because both events will sell out, onsite registration is not allowed. Registration includes conference sessions, breakfast roundtables, demo room, some meals, and social events. TR-X is an additional registration and fee.
