The Next Nature Habitat VRWhat is our natural habitat?
The natural habitat of the polar bear is the Arctic. The natural habitat of the scorpion is the desert. How about humans? What is our natural habitat? And what does it mean to live in a next nature?
Next nature is the nature caused by human culture. That may sound like a contradiction, but really, it isn't. Our technological world has become so intricate and uncontrollable that it has become a nature of its own. This means we have to re-investigate our notion of nature. And to help us understand what it means to live in such a world, the Next Nature Network created the Next Nature Habitat VR. This is an immersive VR experience that takes you through four different scenarios for the future of human habitat. Each one of them explores our living environments in terms of the relation between the born, the made, and the amount of control that we, as humans, have over them.
Would you like to go back to pre-history? What if machines take over? What if we move into Virtual Reality? The Next Nature Habitat VR invites us to step inside these virtual worlds and to join the discussion on the future of future habitat - what does it mean to live in the Next Nature? Will you choose the Garden of Eden, the Techno Favela, the Modernist Dream of the Hypernatural Resort?
The Next Nature Habitat VR will have its North American premiere at the South by Southwest Conference and Festivals 2017. Find it at SXSW - Virtual Cinema, at booth 118, JW Marriot Austin on March 14, 15 and 16 from 11.00 to 18.00. VR Creator Daniel Fraga will also be giving a talk on the project's philosophy and the role of speculative design in raising societal impact, at the New Dutch Wave Mansion from 17.00 to 18.00.
The Next Nature Network a 21st century Nature organization that wants to move forward, not backwards to Nature. We believe that the way forward is through re-evaluating the relationship between the Born and the Made. Find out about them at www.nextnature.net.
Daniel Fraga is a Virtual Reality Creator, Experience Designer and Creative Researcher. Find out about him at www.fraga.space"
Daniel Fraga is a VR Creator and a Post-Architect. Post-Architecture is a form of ontological design - which means that it's a creative discipline aimed towards designing people, not spaces nor objects. He aims to work the ways in which VR can be the tool for designing people's subjectivities, habits, emotions and opinions by providing a carefully created experience.
At www.fraga.space you can find his work, which is a mix of practical VR creation as well as theoretical research into Post-Architecture. Check out the "articles" section to see if it suits you! He has more in preparation, and is constantly writing them.
