Vicon to Reveal New Motion Capture Software at GDC 2017

Vicon partners with DreamWorks and Autodesk to showcase an immersive How to Train Your Dragon experience (February 22, 2017)
DMN Newswire--2017-2-22--Oxford, UK ‚?? February 22, 2017 ‚?? Vicon, the motion capture (mocap) technology specialist for the entertainment industry, today announced that it will reveal a new mocap software, Shogun, designed to help studios manage the production demands of today‚??s cutting-edge games, films, and virtual reality (VR) experiences at the 2017 Game Developers Conference (GDC). Vicon will showcase demonstrations of Shogun at its booth (#2124) throughout the show March 1-3 in San Francisco, California.

In partnership with Vicon, long-time customer DreamWorks Animation and partner Autodesk will showcase an immersive How to Train Your Dragon VR experience at the Vicon booth. The popular How to Train Your Dragon franchise from DreamWorks Animation consists of two feature films with a third planned for 2019. A Vicon mocap system will be used alongside Autodesk‚??s 3D game engine and real-time rendering software, Stingray, to bring the DreamWorks virtual production to life.

‚??We‚??re incredibly excited to introduce Shogun at GDC and show entertainment industry professionals how it will help them overcome many of the challenges they face today,‚?? said Jeff Ovadya, director of sales at Vicon. ‚??We‚??re also looking forward to teaming up with DreamWorks and Autodesk to bring attendees a must-see interactive experience that‚??s truly in a class of its own.‚??

Vicon will also showcase its new family of mocap cameras at the show. Vicon‚??s flagship camera Vantage has been intelligently designed to work cohesively with each of its components to provide up-to-the-minute information to the system operator. It continuously monitors its performance with a host of new sensors, giving the user visual feedback through the on-board camera display, in the software and on Vicon‚??s tablet application Control. Based on Vicon's Vantage technology, Vero is the latest high-resolution optical camera series, offering a new level of performance, flexibility, and value for the motion capture market. Vue is the only high-definition synchronized video camera that provides clear and precise real-time video footage and 3D overlay in the mocap volume.
